Hypersonic aircraft overhead

Recently we had a few Jets go over and it reminded me of a night not that long ago when I swear a hypersonic aircraft went over our house. Not supersonic, I am talking about hypersonic. It was like a slow lightning and thunder bolt rolling across over the house. There was no rain and it was overcast, but no other things to explain the way the lightning behaved. I have seen and heard plenty of aircraft and more than a bit of crazy lightning weather. (helped in part by heading up to a lookout to watch lightning and dust storms whenever they happened)
I was under the impression only the Americans were that far advanced with the flight technology to achieve aircraft of that speed. Perhaps it was a rocket, but I haven’t heard of any using a propulsion system that looks like a lightning bolt.
Is it possible we are seeing a local test of a new breed of aircraft/weapon or is it possible there is a form of a slow moving lightning bolt that hasn’t been identified? By slow I mean two seconds or more from start to finish and the sound travelled at a similar time to the light meaning it was quite low to the ground as it went over the house.
Just wanted to get it recorded before I forgot about it.
